FREE VISION EXAMS FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

AT LIBRARY APRIL 13

Free vision examinations for children, ages six months through seven years-old, will be offered at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, on Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m. The vision exams will follow the weekly 1 p.m. Storytime for Pre-Schoolers at the Library, 300 Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie Borough.

A special "MT Screener" camera will take two photographs of each child's eyes. The photographs will be sent to an ophthalmologist who will evaluate the eye pictures for Near and Far Sightedness, Astigmatism, Misaligned Eyes, Unequal Refractive Power, and Media Opacities(such as cataracts). If there is any suspected problem, they will contact the parents and suggest a more in-depth examination be conducted. Pictures of each child's eyes will only take a few minutes per child.

In the United States, one child in 20 has a serious eye disorder. However, only one child in four is checked for vision difficulties, prior to the age of five. Parents of pre-schoolers are urged to take advantage of this free service, sponsored by the Carnegie Lioness Club and the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.
