ANDREW CARNEGIE'S GRANT LETTER, TO

BUILD LIBRARY, IN NEW BOOK

A new book, Great Letters in American History: Words from the Pens of Americans--Great and Small, includes the 1898 letter Andrew Carnegie wrote granting $210,000 for construction of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. This book, authored by Rebecca Price Janney, includes about fifty letters, from throughout American history, which the author uses to "reveal the inner thoughts and passions of those who made up and continue to make up the citizenry and government of this land."

Great Letters in American History is Mrs. Janney's fourteenth book. Other history books she has authored include Harriet Tubman, Great Stories in American History: A Selection of Events from the 15^th to 20^th Centuries, and Great Women in American History: 24 Women of Faith and Principle. Great Letters in American History, published by Horizon Books of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, is now available at major booksellers. Of course, it is also in the collection of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.
